Clubs and Activities Issue

Principal's Notes

Here at the IB campus students have more opportunities for sports, art, clubs and activities than ever before. Thank you to our staff who dedicate their time and energy to after school activities. You are all helping us build a vibrant, positive community on Tillman Drive. We are launching a new E-Sports club and team. New clubs this year include Robotics, Dungeons and Dragons, Community Building Club, Mock Trial and Page Turner's Club. Our commitment to Kiwanis continues through Key Club and Builders Club.

Our Performing Arts program continues to bloom. After an amazing few months at the end of last year, Choir will meet after school. The IB Campus will be putting on its first musical, Mean Girls.

Student Voice Brings Robotics to the IB Campus

Three students, Janvi Rao, Sarup Tumpati and Brandon Ngo brought a proposal to Principal Weber to bring a Robotics program to the IB Campus. All three students have a wide range of experience in Robotics. This is a leadership and mentoring opportunity for them. The club is open to all students grades 7-12. Our new Math teacher, Nilam Patel, will be the faculty sponsor of this group. Ms Patel studied Electrical Engineering at the Government Engineering College in India. Here she focused on wireless communication. Some projects she worked on involved developing flashing LEDs on timers and home automation projects such as controlling utilities from phones when away from home.

Robotics is open to all grades 7-12.

IB Campus Citizen Program

The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB world schools. We believe these attributes, and others like them, can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities.

Research shows that academic success for all students is greatly influenced by the quality of the school environment, the level of engagement of all students in building school community and the students’ belief their actions influence their success and happiness. Having a sense of belonging in a community increases the likelihood of students reaching their potential, finding a purpose and feeling happy. The goal of the program is to give students the experience of being a citizen day-to-day at the IB Campus.  Being a good citizen requires all students to take on leadership roles.

The IB Campus Citizens Program engages students in the day-to-day running of the school. This may be done in physical spaces such as the lunch room, the hallways, and the classrooms.  It may be done through mentoring or tutoring other students. Students may create new ways to deepen and broaden the program.  The roles and tasks taken on by the students are different in each grade level.

How does the IB Diploma help in the college application process?

Selective colleges want to see that a student is taking the most challenging academic program a school offers which for some schools means Honors classes or AP classes. At School Lane in means IB classes whether you are taking the full diploma or individual courses. We are proud to offer DP for all through IB Language and Literature and IB History of the Americas. While the IB program is highly regarded by state and private universities, there are certain schools who particularly favor IB students. Certain schools will offer generous financial aid packets to IB students. Research shows IB students are more likely to successfully complete the first year of college as opposed to non-IB students.

Dickinson College

Dickinson College located Carlisle, Pa is just over 2 hours away from Bensalem offers a full year for a score of 30 and above for the IB Diploma. Nearly 80% of Dickinson students receive grant or scholarship aid.
