10th Graders Shine at the Personal Project Exhibition

PP1
PP2
PP3

On Wednesday, March 19th, our 10th Grade students participated in their Personal Project Exhibition. The event provided students with opportunities to:

  • Showcase their Projects: Students present their products and findings to the school community, sharing their passion and expertise.

  • Engage in Dialogue: They engage in meaningful conversations with peers, teachers, and parents, explaining their process and answering questions.

  • Demonstrate Communication Skills: They effectively convey their ideas and insights through visual displays, presentations, and interactive demonstrations.

  • Celebrate their Achievements: The exhibition is a moment of pride and accomplishment, recognizing the dedication and effort invested in each project.

The Personal Project is the cornerstone of the Middle Years Program as it takes students on a journey of self-discovery where they are able to delve deep into a topic of personal interest by applying the skills they have developed throughout the MYP Program. It is more than an assignment as it is a year-long exploration for the students where they develop goals, apply the Approaches to Learning, create a product or outcome, and reflect on their learning.

The Personal Project is a transformative experience that fosters:

  • Independent learning: Students develop the ability to manage their time, resources, and learning independently.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving: They learn to analyze information, overcome challenges, and adapt their plans.

  • Personal and intellectual growth: They gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their interests, fostering a lifelong love of learning.

  • Preparation for the Diploma Program: The skills developed in the Personal Project are essential for success in the rigorous IB Diploma Program.

College & Career Fair Highlights

CCF2

SLCS held our annual College & Career Fair on Friday March 28th. The event offers all students in Grades 7-12 the opportunity to explore a wide range of academic and professional possibilities. The fair featured representatives from local and national universities and colleges who presented information about their programs, admissions requirements, and campus life. Career professionals from a variety of industries also shared with students about career paths, shared insights about their fields, and offered advice on navigating the professional world. Ultimately, the College & Career Fair provides our students with practical information and skills that will prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of higher education and the professional world. PARENTS & GUARDIANS: HELP WANTED!

HELP

Thank you for your help ensuring all students report to school in uniform and on time each day! We have seen reductions in uniform violations and late to school counts over the last month. We do still need your assistance with safety during arrival and dismissal. We have too many students being dropped off or picked up on Street Road, in the middle of Tillman Drive, and in neighboring parking lots. Students are not permitted to be dropped off anywhere except for on campus. Please do not put your child in the difficult position of having to choose between following school rules and meeting your expectations. Our priority is student safety, not speed, so we appreciate your anticipated cooperation.

We are committed to providing a challenging and supportive environment where students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Our IB MYP and DP programs are designed to:

  • Cultivate Critical Thinking and Inquiry: Students are encouraged to ask questions, explore diverse perspectives, and develop their own understanding of the world around them.

  • Promote Global Citizenship: Through interdisciplinary learning and a focus on international mindedness, students gain a deeper understanding of global issues and develop a sense of responsibility as global citizens.

  • Develop 21st-Century Skills: Our programs emphasize collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking, preparing students for success in higher education and beyond.

  • Provide a Rigorous and Balanced Education: The MYP and DP frameworks offer a comprehensive curriculum that balances academic rigor with personal development.

  • Prepare Students for Success in College and Beyond: The IB Diploma is recognized and respected by universities worldwide, providing students with a competitive edge in the admissions process.

SGA Basketball Tournament

To coincide with March Madness, SGA hosted a Basketball Tournament earlier this month! We saw amazing teamwork and school spirit from students on and off the court. Just like the Flag Football Tournament last month, the finals were a faceoff between a middle school team and a high school team with the high school team narrowly holding on to a victory to win the tournament. We extend a huge congrats to the winners, and thanks to everyone who made it a night to remember! Please click here for some video highlights from the event!

Where Are They Now?

We would like to spotlight some of the great things our SLCS graduates are up to in the next few issues of our Family Bulletin. First up is Venkata "Pooja" Singameneni. Pooja was a Full DP student graduating from School Lane as a member of the Class of 2021. She was accepted to TCNJ's 7-year medical program right from high school and recently participated in her White Coat Ceremony as a medical student at Rutgers. Congratulations Pooja!

If you know of any SLCS graduates who would like to share their success stories, please have them reach out to Mrs. Hewitt at KHewitt@schoollane.org
